UFT Pushes Error-Filled Anti-Israel Resolution, Ignoring Jewish Teachers
Measure omits Hamas and October 7 as critics warn union is abandoning its mission
The United Federation of Teachers’ leadership seems to have decided that advocating against the Jewish state — and promoting Hamas talking points — is now part of its official role.
That would come as news to the many Jewish educators it is actually supposed to represent.
The UFT’s job as a trade union is to advocate for New York City public school educators and the students they serve. On Wednesday night, it chose to push anti-Israel conspiracies and demonization instead.
At their monthly meeting, UFT delegates advanced a resolution targeting U.S. military support for Israel to next month’s delegate assembly agenda. Fifty-eight percent of delegates voted in favor: 509–370 among those voting by phone, 175–122 in person, for a combined vote of 684–492.
The antizionist resolution, riddled with inaccuracies and omissions, is now formally on the union’s agenda for its May meeting, where delegates will vote on whether to formally adopt it as UFT policy.
