T’ruah’s Antizionist Problem: How One of America’s Most Influential Rabbinic Groups Sides With Israel’s Enemies

An AFTER OCTOBER 7 investigation found that T’ruah’s advocacy and alliances increasingly promote antizionist ideology and align it with groups hostile to Israeli security and sovereignty.

T’ruah, one of the most influential rabbinic organizations in America, says it is committed to Israel’s future as a Jewish and democratic state.

Yet an investigation by AFTER OCTOBER 7 found that the left-wing organization has repeatedly hired, partnered with, promoted, and honored activists who falsely accuse Israel of “apartheid,” “genocide,” forced starvation, and ethnic cleansing — and promoted antizionist libels themselves.

Among other problematic stances, T’ruah has challenged discriminatory anti-BDS laws aiming to protect Jews from racialized boycotts; worked to undermine support for the widely-accepted International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance definition of antisemitism; and aligned itself with organizations at the forefront of the antizionist hate movement that supports the ethnic cleansing of Israelis in the name of Palestinian “liberation.”

The disconnect between T’ruah and the views of mainstream American rabbis and their congregants is perhaps best illustrated by one of the organization’s highest-profile honorees.
